Kitten needs a home

not just because asthma is taking over my home life, but because the dogs got a piece of her furry behind this morning. It isn't fair. My husband and I both ADORE her. You could ask for no better, loving, cuddly sweetheart, but I CAN'T BREATHE AT HOME. We can only let her go to the BEST HOME. She will come with a re-location (re-love-ation) bonus to take care of those initial cat litter, food, etc, expenses. We will be happy to take care of those, and also, she is spayed and her eye is fixed. See her story on "Karmen's Page." Of course, if it didn't work out, we would happily take her back. Only, remember, changing homes is not a cat's favorite activity, and she has been through enough stress in her young life already (estimated to be nearly 1 year old). Call me if you are serious about loving a beautiful kitty 678-699-1916. If you are a true cat person (and not allergic like me), you will be rewarded with tons of kitty-love. (NO declawing allowed!!!!!)

Should I get her a machine of her own?

Kitten says "this machine is mine."
"So is the case it came in!"

"You may use the Bernina ONLY when I nap."

"I have my eye on you."

Aunt Katie (Primitive Woolens) thought perhaps the grilling photo was from holiday activites at my home, but nope, I took the barbecue picture at River Market in Kansas City when Dad and I went down there last week. I am getting slow at quilting, so I don't have any new sewing photos. The Kitten and I are fighting over my Bernina. She has scratched me up pretty good, even with my sewing gloves on. I kicked her outside; she got scared, so I shut her in the bathroom; she got mad (more mad). I don't know what I am going to do with her. She is great as long as I don't go near my machine.

Wren's Nest

I was taking a break from practicing machine free-motion quilting, and I couldn't find my Kitten. I searched for my Wren Kitten everywhere and was scared she'd somehow gotten out. But she had found the batting scraps in the basket under the sewing table. She decided they made a good nest in which to nap. I was so relieved to find she'd been right next to me the whole time.

Never, never again (t-shirt follow up)

Wren Kitty loves the blanket I made for her last weekend. You can see that she is getting quite pudgy. Her one-eyedness is unique, but I am sure most kitties get the ear-turned-back look on occasion.

Mom called today. She wanted to give me advice on the easy way to put my t-shirt quilt together. Something was wrong with my ears after that. I think she said something about multiples of 2 or 3, but it felt like I was under water. The room started spinning. Then it hit me: I could have used this (bleep, bleep, bleep) information 2 days ago! The t-shirt project had already reduced me to tears of frustration. For any other budding quilters out there - IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA to have every shirt cut to a different size. I was so creative that I even cut the framing strips different sizes: some 1 1/2 inch, some 3 inches and, toward the end, I found I'd cut some 3 1/2 inches (probably because somewhere along the line I remembered about seam allowances. YES, A PLAN IS A GOOD IDEA before you cut.

The picture is how I am leaving it for now. I plan a 1 inch dark blue border followed by a wider border of the red/pink Hawaiian print. But for now I am resting and perhaps finishing some hand quilting. I've earned the rest, and I darn sure need it.

One more Millie (#6 for me)

I have been messing around cleaning my office and trying to quilt, so I haven't gotten much done except for organizing. Oh, I remember how I have spent my weekend: Andy went to Texas for a family reunion (his Dad's side), so I cleaned his room. I found his W-2, so I am thinking he has yet to file his taxes. Also, Adam went out of town (camping with friends), so I am dog sitting Dubsley (aka The Big Brown Monster). My dogs are not thrilled with the visitor, so we have had to watch for skirmishes. Meanwhile Rescued Wren is doing fabulous, and not causing any trouble. I let her roam the house last night instead of closing her up in the bathroom. No problem! I have chosen the colors for my next Millie bite. I thought the kitty face would be a touch of whimsy to add to the quilt at the time we added Wren to our lives.

Sewing Companion

Wren likes to hang out on my sewing table. She is not doing all that well jumping on and off of things (like tables) yet because of the one-sided sight and the fancy collar, but she dreams of being outside enjoying nature. We can take her collar off Monday, but there is no way I'm letting her out on her own. Maybe she can go out in a harness and leash? I know better than to say she could be walked. She would have to walk me. At any rate, I have a really sweet sewing room companion.

Kitty on the Mend

Update: Wren was sneezing a little blood, so I called Dr. Evans and she wants me to start putting hot compresses on twice a day. And, yes, her (Wren's) legs are that long and skinny.

Kitty Gets a Real Bed

Well, I just couldn't let the poor little waif sleep on Andy's old shirts, so I made her a little bed out of an old towel. She loves it. As soon as I put her on it, she started kneading it and purring at the top of her whatever it is they purr from. She is going to have her damaged eye removed on Wednesday along with a spay. Andy's dad generously chipped in to help. One of the students from school donated some high quality kitten chow, and I made a bed and gave up a bathroom (where kitty is currently living).
