Recycled T-shirt Rug "Yarn"

The t-shirt rug is done.  Perfect for wiping my feet when I get home from work.
Nine old t-shirts saved from the landfill (3 yellow, 2 pink and 4 green).
I used a really big vintage crochet hook about 10 inches long and thicker than a pencil.
Here is how I joined the 1 1/2 inch t-shirt strips:
Put two strips together, fold the ends over and snip.
Angle the sides to reduce bulk.
Turn one strip to face the opposite direction and line up the holes.
Pull the end of the bottom strip up through the holes.
All the way through, so you end up with a tidy join.
Don't pussy-foot; you'll need bunches of t-shirt "yarn." It crochets up quickly.
Know what I mean?

You did a beautiful job on it. I love making rag rugs for entry ways and it is a great way to recycle old clothing.

Wow! I really like this rug; nice colors | stitches; I think my hubby had better be watching his closet closely.

Thanks so much for this tutorial! I've started saving colorful T-shirts and bookmarked your post. Again, thanks!

I'll bet that fabric is just ideal for those rugs, it must wash us nicely. And that looks pretty!

Just saw this post from the past. I too like to recycle old t-shirts into other useful objects and this is a great one. I do these rugs too but have used old, UGLY fabric strips that I was given that I know would not be put into any of my quilts! Thanks for the reminder that it may be time to recycle some of my old T-shirts now.

Thanks also for becoming a follower on my blog. I love meeting new followers and hope you will come back. That last photo of the kitty feet is great. I had 2 fur babies until last year. Now they are together in Heaven watching over me.
