Blocks done

I couldn't remember what I was doing last weekend, so I ended up cutting too many of one piece and not enough of another so wasted some fabric.  That's a scary thing to do when the kit is a few years old, but I had bought extra blue fabric when I found it at Quilter's Station in Lee's Summit, Mo.
I love the fabrics in this quilt, but I have to say my piecing job is not terrific.  If I had to do it over I believe I would either appliqué the fan onto a background square and/or paper piece the fan.
At least the blocks are done.
And the Oscar show is nearly done too.
I'd better go catch the last of it.
See you all next weekend!

It's in the 70s today!

The weather with weekend is stellar!  Yesterday I was at Macon State College for at tutoring conference, but during a break I was able to sit beside a lake and relax for a minute.  I was exhausted when I got home last night.  Today I hope to work on the fan quilt, and, if I get much done, I will report back at the end of the day.
This post is a collection of some of the shots I took when I went walk-about on the Forrest Hills property during the Spirited Quilter's retreat.
I thought this patch of moss was an amazing yellow-green.
A close up of the stump shows the blue of the moss growing on it.
And yet another bit of moss on a tree:
I looked up into the branches of the tree and marveled at it's height:
And then down at the rail fence made of a felled tree:
Take time in your life to look around at the textures of life around you.
We should not be in such a hurry we put innocents at risk.
Should we?

My Janome Still Works!

I reunited the old Janome with it's power cord and actually turned it on and sewed this weekend.  It was a Silver Thimble weekend, but I only got to stay a couple of hours.  I got started on a fan quilt kit I'd bought at Share the Spirit Quilt Shop in Duluth before it closed a couple of years ago.  When I'd bought it, the kit was short on aqua background fabric so I purchased yellow.  Later, at Quilter's Station in Lee's Summit, MO, I found the same aqua.  I wasn't sure which color I'd use until I laid the fan out on both:
The yellow and then the aqua
Maybe a combination?
Time to think about it.
I think better in Tony Lamas.
